Waste Hauling Replacement Levy

Voters will be asked to approve a 1.1 mill replacement levy on the May 2, 2023 ballot. The existing 1.1 mill levy for this purpose expired on December 31, 2022.

Our new 5-year contract with Rumpke, which was negotiated with the Village of Richfield, is for the same level of service as the expired contract. Nevertheless, in an open bid process, the first year’s cost in 2023 is 17% higher than the cost in 2022. Calculated on our existing 1,030 homes, the annual contract cost is as follows:

• 2024                       $215,311
• 2025                       $223,963
• 2026                       $232,862
• 2027                       $242,256

The Summit County Fiscal Officer has certified that the revenue that will be produced by 1.1 mills on the Township’s total tax valuation is $215,081 starting in 2024. Compared to the contract cost, this revenue may mean that we could have a shortfall by the year 2027. We project that this possible shortfall will be mitigated by an increase in revenue from the JEDD, and increased valuations of existing homes.

Open Zoning Board Positions

Appointment to a township board provides an opportunity for residents to serve in a leadership position while providing valued professional service to the community. The zoning boards are each composed of five full members and two alternate members who reside in the township. Members are appointed by the Board of Trustees and meet as applications require or at the call of the chairperson, generally one evening per month. Full members serve rotating five-year terms; alternate members serve one-year terms and there are no term limits.

The Board of Zoning Appeals acts in a quasi-judicial capacity, rendering decisions on zoning variance and conditional use requests and appeals of the zoning inspector’s determinations. The Board holds regular meetings on the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. A positions for one full member is open.

The Zoning Commission acts in a review capacity, making recommendations for amendments to the text of the zoning regulations or the zoning map (rezoning). The Commission holds regular meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. A position for one full member is open.

   Hunting in the township is permitted with certain conditions.
